Funny how problems have a way of showing up. Final testing with one Gen2 board and the SMC2 mechanism and problems just started happening, or at least I started noticing them. I turned the juke off with a record clamped. The CPA is supposed to reject the record as soon as power is turned on should this happen. It did not. OK, easy enough- it’s in the CPA module. Sound went to crap. All of a sudden I had only horns. About this same time I found a bad spot on the volume control. Bad as in when on that particular spot there was no sound. The carbon track inside the potentiometer was open at that spot. Easy enough-replace volume control. What happened to the bass speakers? Beats me. I think I had been cruising for awhile on one bass speaker and now the other one quit. These are the original 44 year old speakers. I put my knee into one about a week earlier, pulled it , and covered the cracks with “speaker dope”, a black electronic dope I use for minor cone repair so maybe all the handling jarred something loose. I installed a pair I had on the shelf to use for the time being. They’re not nice enough to use permanently and have different terminals anyway. I just used a couple of test leads on the positive ends.
I called it a day in the shop. Loaded the speakers in the old Honda car and zoomed off to see David at Freeman-Tuell to ask him to recone these. Another $130 into the juke.
