I got back on the SMC1 mechanism very carefully cleaning and adjusting the vertical stack of switches and the two horizontal stack switches. Not much improvement. I decided to pull the tonearm assembly and see if anything was sticky, perhaps delaying the right/left switching. I carefully lubricated it and operated it by hand once pulled and could see nothing wrong. I re-installed it and tested and nothing changed.
I swapped the SMC3 Seeburg MCU and also the PCC from the hideaway SMC2 and tried it again and again; no change. It sure seems like the problem is in the mechanism and is getting very frustrating. When the mechanism puts the A side record back it is supposed to shift to the right side play a hair before bringing the record back up for B side play. It doesn’t swap. I decided to pull the mechanism out of the SMC3, service it, and try it in this box.
I finished the day by completing the recap on the second PA-4 Library Unit pre-amp that my Tyler buddy Mark Y brought to me a week ago. Actually someone else started it. They just didn’t change the six hardest to change capacitors at the 5879 tube. Joy. I did it though and the unit works. Another “ship in a bottle” done.
