Replace/Repair GMQ Fuses

Don’t have a GMQ style fuse? Kinda put out by the extremely high price being asked for
the darn things?
Here’s what I do and have done for decades. Take a pair of needle nose pliers. Slide the
jaws up the glass until you hit the metal, squeeze and break the glass and clean it out so
no glass sticks above the metal rim. A standard sized, 1.25 inch long fuse is now a perfect
fit in the holder with the now modified top holding it down. The metal rim provides
electrical contact on top of the fuse while holding it in place like any other fuse holder.
Works like a charm. Don’t have the exact value for a 6 ¼ a fuse? Stepping up to a 7A
fuse won’t matter at all except for the people who want to argue that haven’t done it 200
times. I go up to 7A slow blow. For the 31/2A GMQ fuse go to 4A.
I’m recommending stepping up in amperage to fulfill fuse needs. When these fuses blow
it’s almost always because of a direct short to ground and at that point it wouldn’t matter
if there were 10A fuses in place so a 1/2 or 1 amp step-up wont’ matter. NO MORE than
that though.
